It goes without saying that Monday night’s Met Gala did not disappoint. Hence why it’s taken me a few days to recap the hits and misses. I’m curious to know your thoughts – please share in the comments what you thought of the looks!
(The Winner’s Circle)
Rihanna in Maison Margiela
We all knew Rihanna was going to wear something amazing but I don’t think anyone could have prepared us for this. A Pope-inspired gown?! This is a look that will probably go down in Met Gala history.
Anna Wintour in Chanel
When she first arrived, I said that if anyone other than Anna Wintour tried to wear this, I would probably hate it. But this dress looks like it was created for Anna personally (actually would not be surprised if it truly was). It’s high-fashion, but not overpowering and compliments her perfectly.
Bella Hadid in Chrome Hearts
There have been lots of mixed opinions on this look but I love how Bella took the theme and went for it.
Amal Clooney in Richard Quinn
Just when you thought the pants + dress combo was dead… what I actually love the most about this look is the contrast between the two elements, paired with the bustier. It is insanely flattering and makes you wonder HOW this woman just gave birth to twins less than a year ago. I do realize it’s not totally “on theme” for the event (and yes, Amal was one of the chairs and probably should have dressed on theme) but c’mon, it’s a gorgeous look.
Kate Moss in Saint Laurent
When it comes to Kate Moss, I am completely biased. This is her first appearance at the Met Gala in a decade. She could have worn a trash bag and I’d put her on the “Best” list. I don’t care.
Rita Ora in Prada
Originally, I wasn’t thrilled with this look when she first stepped on the carpet but the more photos I saw, I started to love it. The train, the headpiece, the attitude she’s throwing… Rita is becoming a serious threat in the fashion world.
Chadwick Boseman in Versace
Of all the men I saw photos of, Chadwick Boseman deserves the top prize for dressing to the theme so well. I absolutely love all the details on his suit and the gold shoes.
Madonna in Jean Paul Gaultier
We all knew that Madonna was going to slay. She did not disappoint one bit. I especially love the hemline on her gown – it really adds even more drama to the look.
Kim Kardashian West in Versace
This is my absolute favorite KKW look ever. Really. She has never looked better – I especially love the embellished cross on the hip, it really flatters her curvy silhouette in this gown.
Blake Lively in Atelier Versace
Blake has a near-perfect track record for the Met Gala. This gown isn’t totally religion inspired (at least in my opinion) but I’ll forgive her – the details on the train are unbelieveable.
Cardi B in Moschino
See “How You Debut at the Met Gala.” Cardi B crushed it.
Gigi Hadid in Atelier Versace
I was surprised this dress didn’t gather more attention. It’s the only one that I can remember that incorporated elements of stained glass windows into this design.
Jennifer Lopez in Balmain
Balmain has been the “hot” brand for the last few Galas but J. Lo is really the only noticeable celebrity who wore it this year. That’s probably better – I’m not sure anyone else could compete with this. It incorporates the traditional Balmain elements with the “Heavenly Bodies” theme perfectly.
Donald Glover in Gucci
I had to add the GIF so you could see the full details of the back of his suit – absolutely incredible.
Ariana Granda in Vera Wang
Here’s another dress that I wasn’t a huge fan of initially – until I stopped and realized she has the SISTINE CHAPEL on her dress.
Kate Bosworth in Oscar de la Renta
Can we all just agree that Kate Bosworth is a literal angel when it comes to the Met Gala?
Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren Collection
The jewels, the color of the dress, the draping – Priyanka slayed.
(Didn’t Love, Didn’t Hate)
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
I know this is supposed to “Joan of Arc” inspired but I just expected more from Alicia.
Alexa Chung in Alexa Chung
It’s a cute dress – but nothing about this screams “Met Gala” to me.
Katy Perry in Versace
This is beautiful – but it’s too much.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Dolce & Gabbana
See above. I would have loved this more without the crown.
Zendaya in Versace
Another “Joan of Arc” inspired look. But I’m not feeling her hair here and it’s distracting me way too much from the rest of the look.
Zoe Kravitz in Saint Laurent
Zoe gets credit for wearing something that looks like it’s literally just a veil. But too minimalist in my opinion. It needed just a little more.
Olivia Munn in H&M
This is very similar to Priyanka Chopra’s look – I don’t hate it but I think the monochromatic look is too much here.
Kendall Jenner in Off-White
I’m obsessed with Off-White, and normally would love this look, but two questions: What does this have to do with “Heavenly Bodies” and how did she manage to walk without tripping?
Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton
Unpopular opinion: I loved Emma’s style way more before she started working with Louis Vuitton. This is a pretty look – but it’s a little boring.
(Not the Best… For This Event At Least)
Presented without commentary because I don’t want to be mean…
Lily Collins in Givenchy
Cara Delevinge in Dior
Selena Gomez in Coach
Jaden Smith in Louis Vuitton
Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton
Rooney Mara in Givenchy
Kylie Jenner in Alexander Wang
Mindy Kaling in Vassilis Zoulias
Greta Gerwig in The Row
