Red Carpet Favorites: 2017 Emmy Awards Edition

I love watching the Emmys not only for its showcase of the best performances in television – but also because the red carpet is always incredible every single year. This past Sunday was no exception. There were a number of looks that I loved but I managed to narrow it down to five specific actresses this year – along with suggestions if you’d like to recreate the style yourself for a special occasion or event this fall.

Issa Rae (in Vera Wang)

This is what I envision for an Emmys dress: classic and glamorous. What I love most about is the sleeve detail – while it would have been beautiful on Issa Rae’s body regardless, the embellishments on the sleeve add a layer of drama and take it from being a “safe choice” to “#goals” instead.

Reese Witherspoon (wearing Stella McCartney)

I’m in the minority here. A lot of people seemed to hate this blazer dress but I loved it. It’s edgy and bold in a way that stands out on the red carpet. Stella McCartney tends to go beyond the “goddess/Old Hollywood” vibe that a lot of other actresses were wearing and I think Reese was one of the only celebrities in attendance that could have pulled this look off.

Yara Shahidi (wearing Prada)69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals

If you listen closely, you can hear me screaming for not following Yara Shahidi earlier. After seeing this masterpiece, I Googled her previous red carpet looks and she absolutely kills it on the red carpet. Seriously, this girl deserves so much more recognition! Without a doubt, this was my favorite look of the night.

Millie Bobby Brown (wearing Calvin Klein)milliebobbybrown

Whenever I look at Millie Bobby Brown, I can’t help but be incredibly jealous of how she looks so poised and beautiful at 13 years old. At 13, I was the definition of awkward and uncomfortable. MBB’s style is always age-appropriate on the red carpet and the Emmys last night was no exception: she chose a Calvin Klein number that looked equal parts sophisticated and youthful.

Priyanka Chopra (wearing Balmain)

Is it possible to do a “Best Dressed” list without including someone wearing Balmain? I don’t think so. Priyanka Chopra is always one of my favorites for her bold looks but this Balmain dress not only incorporated the feather trend but added studs as well. If it weren’t for Yara Shahidi’s gown, I would place it as my #1 but this is a close second.
