It’s been another hectic week but there is a calm finally approaching on the horizon. I’m looking forward to finishing a few more projects this afternoon and (hopefully) relaxing this weekend. Luckily, we do have some pretty nice finds to share with you this week as you finish off your Friday.
ULTA’s 21 Days of Beauty Finds
The 21 Days of Beauty event always results in some great sales but this weekend that three amazing 50% off deals that you definitely don’t want to miss. Today, you can grab the Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette for $17 (I still have to hustle to my local ULTA so I might be purchasing this online if it’s out of stock already…). On Saturday, Benefit’s Roller Lash Lifting Mascara is available for only $12. And finally, on Sunday, the Lights, Camera, Lashes Precision Longwear Liquid Eyeliner from Tarte goes on sale for only $10. While these deals are absolutely worth making three trips to ULTA, they will also be available online.
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Since Tom Ford debuted his Spring 2018 collection in New York on Wednesday night to amazing reviews, it’s only right to share one of my favorite fragrances from this creative genius. Black Orchid is a quintessential “Tom Ford” perfume: a mixture of drama and luxury. It’s definitely rich in florals but doesn’t seem too feminine in my opinion – this is not so much an everyday perfume but is more of a “going out” scent (especially if you want to make a statement). I received mine from Scentbird and still wear it on special occasions.
Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody Bags
I’ll be headed to Nashville in October to celebrate the 30th birthdays for both my husband and one of my best friends. It’s exciting because I’ve never been to Nashville (though everyone seems to rave about it!) and I’m already starting to mentally pack. As you’ve probably noticed from my Instagram and this blog, I have a major preference for large tote bags. These probably aren’t the most practical choices for the Nashville nightlife scene. I’ve been a big fan lately of Rebecca Minkoff’s crossbody bags – like this one here. This weekend I’ll probably make a little trip to my local Nordstrom to see if they have this one in stock. I’m getting major Chanel vibes from this style, which is nice because I’m not sure if bringing my 2.55 would be the best idea!
I’ve mentioned my love for Hunter boots previously (I have a tall matte black pair and a short green pair that have served me well for a few years now) but I recently saw these pink ones in person and oh my goodness… I’m obsessed. I realize these might not be the most practical color, but assuming you already have a basic black pair on hand, why not have a little fun on an otherwise dreary day? Hunter is a brand that will last several years and is definitely worth the investment.
To Save Money:
EnergyBits is a company that appeared on Shark Tank and manufacturers algae tablets that help fight fatigue. I received two samples (the EnergyBits and RecoveryBits) of these to review and was a little skeptical at first: how was processed algae supposed to help me fight the afternoon slump? Well, imagine my surprise when I tried this and found that they definitely gave me a solid “two energy drink”-level buzz – and without any side effects! I’m not a nutritionist but I feel confident in saying these are much healthier than my typical Rockstar drink. While I am going to post a more detailed review later, I will note two points right now: one, they taste terrible – do not try to chew them! Take EnergyBits’ advice here (seriously, they straight up say in the instructions that these have an “acquired taste“) and just swallow them. And second, while EnergyBits considers a “full” serving to be 30 tablets, I found that just taking 10 worked for me. This is a huge bonus because the product is sold in bags containing 1000 tablets (meaning I’m going to get many more servings). At $120 these things aren’t cheap – but when you calculate out how many servings you’ll get in each bag, it comes out to less than your average protein bar. As a bonus, you can use promo code CHAMPAGNETASTE for 20% off your purchase.
I’ve been slacking on finding new shows to watch (once fall tv programming starts up again I’m sure I will have plenty of recommendations!) but I did recently upgrade my iPhone and get a new iPad. So I figured I’d share a few of my favorite apps as of late.
Cozi is honestly designed for families and parents that need to keep track of their kids’ schedules – but I’ve found it works awesome for my husband and I. I set up an account and have multiple calendars in this app (mine, his, a joint calendar, also ones for our pets, tentative events and a general one for birthdays). Additionally, each user can contribute to the “Lists” portion within the app, so we’re able to keep a running grocery list going between us – which is really nice in that it eliminates those “Hey I’m going to stop at the store, what do we need?” texts. As a bonus: husband gets an email every morning with the “schedule” for the day and says this is a really useful feature!
As a freelance writer, one of the most basic job duties that I have is to stay up-to-date with current events. Unfortunately, as you likely know, sometimes the news is just really boring (hey, I’m just being honest here!). What I love about the Skimm is that it is a daily email newsletter that summarizes the news quickly for you and is written in an easygoing, humorous voice. The Skimm also has apps available – which is useful to read the news on-the-go and also has a feature that syncs important events into your mobile calendar. If you’d like to sign up for the Skimm, click here – it’s definitely an easy (and fun!) read in your inbox every morning.
I’ve used a variety of list apps but Any.do is my favorite for its simplicity and organization (previously I swore by Wunderlist but always seemed to encounter the app crashing on my devices – I’ve never had this issue with Any.do). It’s a fast and easy way to keep track of what you need to get done – as well as schedule things (like maybe blog posts…oops) in advance. While the Premium version does look nice, I’ve been using the Free version for some time now and find that it manages everything I need.

“Dusk Till Dawn” by ZAYN featuring Sia
I love both artists and this is such a catchy song – I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing it all over the radio soon enough.
“Too Good at Goodbyes” by Sam Smith
Because when Sam Smith releases new music, you have to include it.
“Tom Ford” by JAY-Z
This song has been stuck in my head since I wrote about Black Orchid above. Unfortunately, this is the only version I could find on YouTube but is still a quality performance.
