This Saturday was a pretty exciting mail day for me – both my Switch and Rocksbox subscription boxes arrived! I’m not sure my mailbox has ever had so much gorgeous jewelry in it at one time. After having a few days to try both out, I figured I would give you a review to let you know what I thought of these programs – and I have promo codes if you’d like to try them out for yourself!
We’ll start with Switch because I’ve been talking about it quite a bit the last few days. Switch is a designer jewelry subscription service, similar to programs like Rent the Runway. It allows you to pick out pieces from their collection to borrow, for a small monthly fee. What makes them stand out, however, is the selection of brands available: Hermes, Chanel, David Yurman, Celine, Yves Saint Laurent and more. The plans start at $30/month, which when you consider the individual prices of the jewelry available is an amazing deal.
I contacted the team at Switch prior to signing up to get some more information. They were generous enough to provide me with a discount for my first month in exchange for this review. I would like to note that the Switch employees are extremely fast at responding to emails – which is an important attribute when you have people renting out expensive pieces of jewelry. One of the popular questions regarding this service is regarding damage – normal wear and tear is covered by Switch, you’ll only be charged if it the item is damaged beyond repair or lost. You’re able to keep a piece as long as you’d like and if you do decide you’d like to purchase it, Switch offers the item at a discounted price to subscribers.
When I was browsing the online collection last Thursday, a deep red Hermes bracelet immediately caught my eye. I do have one of these bangles already – but mine is gold and I rarely wear it as I primarily wear silver jewelry. This deep red color (not quite burgundy but close) also reminded me of my beloved Wisconsin Badgers, so I figured it was a perfect choice with football season coming up! I selected this bracelet as my first pick and immediately got an email letting me know it was headed my way.
Um, they were not joking. It arrived on Saturday! The two-day shipping was awesome – I did not expect that it would be that fast. The packaging was definitely secure and well-wrapped. I opened it to find a very nice box with a cute card explaining the service, along with a prepaid shipping label for when I was ready to return… and my bracelet inside a jewelry pouch.
I’ve been wearing this bracelet non-stop since it arrived. Seriously – I am so obsessed with it, I’ve already warned my husband that I might be purchasing this particular piece.
Since Switch does have a very nice collection (it seems to be growing too, I’ve noticed new items every time that I’ve logged in) this is a great service for anyone that loves designer jewelry – but not the high prices. It’s also a great option if you will be attending a special event, like a wedding or a fundraiser, and want something fancy to go with your outfit.
(FYI, it’s actually really hard to take a selfie showcasing a bracelet….)
If you’re interested in trying out Switch, they were nice enough to provide my readers with a special discount. Use this link and promo code TASTE50 to get your first month at 50% off!
The second service that I tried was Rocksbox. I saw a Facebook ad for this company and decided to check it out. For a monthly fee, Rocksbox will send you three jewelry pieces that their stylists think you’ll like – you can try them out and if you decide to buy any of them, your monthly subscription fee is credited towards your purchase.
So much Kendra Scott and Kate Spade… Rocksbox hooked me in right away!
When you first sign up, Rocksbox has you complete a survey so their stylists can learn what you love and what you’re not likely to wear (for example, I noted that I mostly wear silver jewelry, though I’m willing to try gold pieces). Then you can browse their jewelry collection and put specific items on your “Wishlist.” You can also put ten pieces as your “Top Requested Items” if there’s anything you’d really, really like to try. The brands are all designer (the fact that there is so much Kendra Scott and Kate Spade immediately caught my eye) and very high-quality pieces.
I completed this on Wednesday and it shipped on Thursday, arriving on Saturday. The timing was pretty impressive in my opinion as a stylist was required to look at my preferences and then choose what to include based on their inventory.
My Rocksbox arrived in a mailing envelope that can be reused when it’s time to ship the items back. Everything was packaged nicely inside the little jewelry box, and Rocksbox included a personalized card explaining what they chose for me and suggestions for how to wear them.
I was happy to see that all three items were ones that I had put on my Wishlist. With Rocksbox, I wanted to experiment a little and try jewelry that I may not usually pick out. I received a pair of Aster tassel earrings, Perry Street climber earrings and a Sophie Harper pendant necklace.
(yes, I changed my lipstick while taking photos…)
The climber earrings were the item that was most out of my comfort zone. I’ve seen this trend on others and in magazines but I typically wear regular stud earrings. It was nice to be able to try these on with a few different outfits to see if I would like them. I found that while I’m more interested in this style of earring, this particular pair isn’t for me. The good news is this is feedback that I can give to my Rocksbox stylist!
(these were really hard to get a good picture of – it wasn’t until I got really nice sunlight a few hours later that I got a picture that shows off the beautiful color)
Tassel earrings are another fun trend. The pair that Rocksbox sent me was a beautiful burgundy pair – the color looks gorgeous in person but was very hard to photograph with my dark hair color. I do really like these earrings and am considering purchasing them as they would be nice for fall.
Finally the necklace. I was so excited to see this as I had marked it on my “Top Requested Items” list! It’s a small silver sugar skull pendant – I absolutely love all things with sugar skulls so it was totally up my alley. This item is a perfect example of why the Rocksbox service is awesome – had I seen it on a regular online retailer and ordered it, I would have been surprised when it arrived that it was so small. I definitely thought the pendant would be larger and the chain would be longer. I’m glad that I got a chance to try this out before committing to my purchase! I will say that despite expecting it to be a little different, it’s grown on me and I’m considering buying this one as well.
As I previously mentioned, you’re able to keep your Rocksbox items as long as it takes for you to decide. However, if you want to get the best value out of your monthly fee, return them as soon as you decide for a new box… there’s no limit to how many boxes Rocksbox sends you in a month. You are only charged once a month for unlimited boxes – but is important to note that you have to decide on your items at the same time (meaning I need to make up my mind if I’m buying both the tassel earrings and sugar skull necklace – I can’t send one back and then decide to send another later… all decisions have to be at the same time). Since your monthly fee is credited to your account, this service basically pays for itself if you find something you like – which you absolutely will if you continue to give your stylist feedback.
Make sure to leave notes and review your boxes so you can receive items you love in the future!
Ultimately, this is another service I would recommend and I’m excited about. Like Switch, I have a promo code if you’d like to try it for yourself. If you click on this link and enter promo code SARAHSBFF135 you’ll receive your first month for free!
